Drone – that’s how the unmanned, remotely controlled aircrafts are called. The drones have gone through an explosive growth thanks to the reduced size of the batteries and the increased capacity. Another factor is that through the development of the mobile phones the accelerometer and other sensors have become accessible. Remote-controlled planes and helicopters exist for a long time now, but those models were unable to carry payload. Nor the stability of the models has enabled successful imaging. The multi-armed helicopters were a breakthrough in aerial photography. The four-six-eight-rotor drones fly stable and can be maneuvered very gently. The camera is suspended in the gravity center on a remote control platform which can turn vertically and horizontally. The octocopter is controlled by two people: the pilot watches only the movement of the machine and the camera operator is responsible only for the image cutting and the sharpness. The drone transmits a live video feed, the operators and the staff sees exactly what the camera does on the machine.

The aerial photography is an unusual and powerful perspective. It shows the scenery, cities and structures as rarely seen – in its full dimension. In contrast to the traditional aircrafts the octocopter can take off anywhere, on a busy city street or even inside a building. The eight-armed helicopter is capable of hovering, therefore the photos can be made in a standstill position. Thanks to its good maneuverability it can get close to objects, for example statues and towers. Every member of the staff can be in the field and work until they reach the desired outcome.
Any professional camera can be mounted on the SVA-X8 type. The installation is simple. The main frame can be fixed with a foot stand screw to the camera platform. The camera has two cables connected to the board: a composite/hdmi and a remote control. The drone transmits on 5.8 GHz 720*576 resolution live video feed. The composition is done by the pilot and the operator working together. The maximum range of the transmitter systems is 1000 m, but for safety reasons we try to stay within a 300 m radius.
The octocopter can replace camera moving equipment used in the film industry such as helicopters with dolly, technocrane or cineflex system. In addition, it does the same job only for a fraction of the cost of the former systems. It is easy to use, does not require licenses, location insurance, external power source. The octocopter can stay in the air 15 minutes with a single charge. The SVA-X8 can carry up to 7 kg so it means DSLR or even RED EPIC can be mounted on it. The drone transmits SD quality live video feed which is done by the pilot and the operator working together. Thanks to the eight arms of the oktokopter is can fly very stable and the gyroscopic stabilization system makes sure that the shots are absolutely vibration-free.
Aerial photography is circumstantial and expensive. The cost of the operating hours of the aircrafts capable of photography starts at 300EUR and there are strict rules for the altitude over populated areas. The speed of the aircraft is also a technical challenge. The stalling speed of the Cessna 172 which is used most commonly for such purposes is 150 km/h – so the machine has to be quicker than that. Due to the high speed the photographer has only a short time to compose and to use a high shutter speed. The octocopter is a cheap and good alternative to the plane.
We can capture the mood of the environment with a panoramic image much better as with a simple photo, as we can represent the reality by a larger slice in an exciting perspective.
With panoramic images people can look around in places where they couldn’t physically while sitting in front of the computer. The aerial panoramic photos offers even more, they can look around from a virtual look-out. For example, a picture from a popular look-out tower can’t only show the panorama but the look-out tower itself as well. Panoramic photography is much more complicated than the aerial photography. From the octocopter standing (hovering) in one place, high dynamic range (HDR) photos are made in round format. Processing and post-production of the images takes usually 1-2 days.
The name of the recently popular imaging technology means: the march of time. The images recorded in a long period of time are played in a much shorter time and it makes the viewer feel it’s the march of time. Our staff is seriously skilled in timelapse preparation even if the footage is made by moving cameras or with perspective distortion.

In case of orthophoto the axis of the photography is vertical. With the correction of distortions caused by the perspective, these images are perfect for mapping purposes and are themselves often converted into maps. For example the popular Google Earth and Google Maps were also made using orthophotos. These accurate, digitally converted aerial photographs - which provide the opportunity for area measurements - can be printed in many different scales.
